New User Interface (UI) & Personal Video Recording (PVR)

Genre Listing: This is a new addition into the UI. Now subscribers can view channels according to their genres. (One channel can be in multiple genres. For instance, DBC News HD is in HD, Bangladeshi Channels, and News genres). When subscriber selects a genre, he will be redirected to the program guide of only the channels of that genre.

Help Page: The “Help” page has been enhanced with the inclusion of Subscriber Name, RMN (Registered Mobile Number), Activated Package, Base Package Expiry, Balance etc. Info. After recharging account or updating any other account or billing-related information, it might take up to 30 minutes for the “Help Page” to get updated and reflect the updated account & billing information.

Personal Video Recording (PVR)

  • Activation of PVR:  PVR features are currently free and will be automatically activated for all our subscribers with valid subscription.
  • Watching recorded contents:
    • If subscriber’s subscription is expired, he won’t be able to watch the recorded contents just like he cannot watch live TV. He will need to recharge his required subscription amount in order to watch his previously recorded contents again.
    • Recorded contents are encrypted & therefore can only be watched in the STB where it has been recorded. If subscribers insert the USB storage device to laptops, mobiles, personal computers, STBs of other operators or even other STBs of AKASH, he won’t be able to play the recorded contents.
    • Auto deletion of recorded contents will not happen unless subscribers do it on their own. However, Factory reset or formatting the USB storage device will erase the recording contents.
  • USB Storage Device: Any FAT32 format pen drive or external Hard disk drive can be inserted through the USB port of the STB in order to record contents. However, it is recommended that maximum 500 GB capacity USB Storage devices are used. Also when a drive is inserted first time, it might request to format the drive. Therefore, customers are recommended to insert a drive containing no other files except previous recording files of AKASH.

When you insert your drive, the STB may require it to be formatted in order to make it ready for recording storage. Therefore, you are advised to take care of your existing files before you insert the drive into your STB because formatting will erase all existing files.

Furthermore, if you record a program, then remove the drive and insert it in any other devices, and then reinsert the drive into the same STB, the STB may require the drive to be formatted again in order to make it ready for recording storage.

Also, if you use the pen drive (where recorded item is stored) to store other files, the other files will get encrypted and you'll not be able to open/view the encrypted file in any devices. Therefore, it is recommended to use a dedicated pen drive/USB Storage device for recording purpose only.

  • Live TV Pause: Customer will need to enable it from “Recording Settings”.
  • Instant Recording: It can be done anytime with the record button from the remote.
  • Schedule Recording: It can be done from both “Program Guide” menu and “Recording” menu.
  • Recording Conflicts:
    • While one channel is being recorded, subscribers can only switch to other channels if those are in the same transponder (of the satellite) of the channel which is being recorded. If they attempt to switch to other channels, they will get a pop up message on their screen and they'll need to stop the ongoing recording in order to switch to channels from other transponders.
    • While recording is on-going, the STB needs to be switched on. If the STB is in standby mode when a scheduled recording starts, the STB will automatically wake up from standby in order to execute the scheduled recording.

If I insert my USB Drive/Pendrive/Hard disk, the STB requires to format it. What can I do about it?

If I use one drive/pen drive for recording, can I use it for other purposes?

When you insert your drive, the STB may require it to be formatted in order to make it ready for recording storage. Therefore, you are advised to take care of your existing files before you insert the drive into your STB because formatting will erase all existing files.
Furthermore, if you record a program, then remove the drive and insert it in any other devices, and then reinsert the drive into the same STB,  the STB may require the drive to be formatted again in order to make it ready for recording storage.

Also, if you use the pen drive (where the recorded item is stored) to store other files, the other files will get encrypted and you'll not be able to open/view the encrypted file in any device. Therefore, it is recommended to use a dedicated pen drive/USB Storage device for recording purposes only.

Recording settings

What does it mean by "Rewind duration"?

"Rewind Duration" is a setting needed for the "Live TV Pause" feature. When Live TV Pause is "enabled", your Set-Top Box (STB) continuously maintains a buffer recording for a specific duration; a duration within which you can go back & forward after you've paused live TV. This specific duration is the "Rewind Duration". It is set to 30:00 min by default and you can change it to a maximum of 59:59 min.

15

PVR

Recording settings

What is "Rewind Interval"?

When you have paused live TV, you have the ability to fast forward or rewind through the "Rewind Duration" time span. "Rewind interval" is the duration of each step of fast forwarding or rewinding you do. It can be selected in min: sec format.

PVR

Recording settings

What is "Start Record Earlier" & "End Record Later"?

"Start Record Earlier" & "End Record Later" are very much useful for the "Schedule Recording" feature. You can schedule a program to be recorded from our program guide. Now, for example, the program guide shows the program will air from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Therefore, if you schedule the recording from there, your recording will be done for the exact time span of the program mentioned in the program guide. Now, if you want to stretch the recording let's say from 6:50 to 7:40 because you want to ensure you don't miss any part of the program, you can select 10 minutes in "Start Record Earlier" & 10 minutes in "End Record Later". Therefore, your scheduled program will be recorded beyond the program schedule mentioned in the program guide, up to your wish! So, these 2 settings help you to stretch your recording beyond the specified time span mentioned in program guides.
